Shanel Winning

I’m Shanel Winning, a registered psychologist who helps organisations get results that last. My clients come to me for my people expertise but stay for the rest: logical, evidence-based advice that works with their wiring and the commercial realities of business. I took the long way here: operations, information systems, marketing, a stint in mergers and acquisitions, then registration as a psychologist in 2006. I’m allergic to spin, hype, and theory that sounds good at thirty thousand feet, just like the technical executives and partners I work with. My approach is always side-by-side, never “expert dispensing wisdom”. So while I won’t tell you what you want to hear, you'll always feel respected and valued for who you are, and confident that I'm working in your best interests.

Commonly asked questions about working with me

Who pays, the leader or the organisation?

Usually the organisation, even for confidential one-to-one work. The sessions stay confidential to the leader. The goals and progress are agreed with their leader or Chair, so the business knows what it's investing in. If it would help to have that conversation with your organisation, I'm happy to be part of it.

What does it cost to work with you?

Assessments from $3,000+GST. Psychometric testing usually $4,000+GST per candidate. Coaching $12,000 or $18,000+GST all in, over six or twelve months. The five-day intensive $8,750+GST all in. Team days from $10,000+GST. Bespoke work is scoped and fixed-price before we begin.

Do you take on every client?

No. I take on clients I'm confident I'll work well with, doing work I know how to deliver. If you're asking for something I don't believe will work in your situation, I'll say so, and suggest an alternative that will. But I won't quote on briefs I haven't helped to shape.

Where do you work?

I'm based in Auckland, work face-to-face across New Zealand and Australia most weeks, and do one-to-one work online. I'm registered as a psychologist in both countries.

What if my situation doesn't fit one of your specific categories?

Email me about it anyway. Some of the most valuable work I do starts with "I'm not sure you can help" or "I'm not sure what I need". A complex business problem, conflict between two senior people, a town hall, a bespoke workshop, a possible performance problem. If I'm not the right person, I'll tell you.
